Hyaluronic acid is very hydrophilic so it binds to water molecules (1gram HA binds 3 litres water) and it provides hydration. Most skin care brands today have lots of products that contains HA because of its qualities. 

Fillers are resistant to degradation and can last several months because the HA is stabilised with cross linking proteins.
